Mini Music Movies · Art Channel by Udo Prinsen
· What are Mini Music Movies? ·
Mini Music Movies are little artistic film adventures created in collaboration with musicians from various genres. Through these short, dynamic and stimulating films, we are able to help promote musicians, a band or orchestra, a song or an entire album. Together we inspire an audience.
Mini Music Movies have appeared in art exhibitions, on stage, online and on television. Each film is an art project, together they form this selective art channel here and a larger channel on YouTube. In addition to Mini Music Movies, we also create Art Tracks, simple dynamic clips that set the branding, the art work for a song or album, in motion and help to distribute the message throughout social medias.
The Mini Music Movies Art Channel was initiated by Udo Prinsen, an animation director and visual artist working from the Netherlands with a creative `history in Canada & UK.
· Who is Udo? ·
Udo Prinsen is a visual artist and animation director working from the Netherlands. He spent time in Canada & UK and is now based in Utrecht, a vibrant city and a true animation hub.
He works with museums, musicians, ensembles and culturally related business, creating film & mixed media art installations for exhibits, performance and business related ventures.
Music has always been an inspiration for him. Present day composers and musicians have always been an excellent match with ways he likes to collaborate. Be it through a thoroughly planned project or an improvised setting.
On the way he came up with the concept of Mini Music Movies as a platform for experimentation and research for bigger plans with producers, musicians and ensembles. This concept organically grew into the channel it now is.
· History : The first Mini Music Movie ·
During the production of a theatrical music production Udo worked with Elisabeth Esselink, aka as Solex. After that they decided to do a little experiment, make a very short movie in just a day’s time. They chose ‘Little light of Mine’ as a track to work from. Elisabeth created a short musical track, Udo let himself be inspired by ‘light’ in the broadest sense and got some help from his good friend Bas Suir who is a light and music technician. Even though the concept of Mini Music Movies was not born at that time, Udo considers that the first and has included it in the channel.
· Does Udo work alone? ·
No. Even though he loves to work on many creative things at the same time, he also likes to collaborate with fellow artists and open the stage for up and coming students.
These three talented artists below have created a substantial contribution to the Mini Music Movies Library.
Anna Koppen created 5 short clips connected to the senses, animated and edited to the music of composer Paul Crucq.
Yanniek Klein animated 3 perfect short stories to the compositions of 3 very young composers who learned composing through a foundation in the Netherlands.
Michal Hauwert worked on 2 Mini Music Movies connected to his graduation film for the Animation Academy of Utrecht School of Arts.

· Who pays for the films ? ·
Good question. We are an independent initiative and work with independent artists, labels and music related people like instrument builders. Most artists are not blessed with big budgets and that’s why we keep the projects ‘Mini’. The costs are often shared, partly by the artist, partly by a label and partly by us, the channel.
When we get to work, we discuss a creative concept and part of that conversation is the finance mix. The artist can have a subsidy for a promotional film, or a mecenas can support his/her favourite artist by buying a Mini Music Movie. We invest in the films as well and in return we gain artistic freedom. And, of course, we include the clip in our channel and distribution.
Together we work hard to bring our best version of hand crafted art films (and … yes, sometimes we some a little bit of AI) to you, our audience. And we hope that if you can appreciate our work, you will reward us your ‘cinema ticket’ and make a donation.
· So what does a Mini Music Movie cost ? ·
A Mini Music Movie costs time to make and we use different means to make them like software, hardware and studio space. It all depends on how elaborate our creative concept will be and what challenge and artistic freedom is in it for us, the visual artists. Although we use AI as a tool, we are not a big fan of AI as a full creative concept. We prefer a hands on approach and celebrate craftmanship. If you are willing to let go of some creative control, we are willing to work for a low budget.
It’s all in the conversation, let’s talk!
· How can I help ? ·
Thank you for asking! It’s already a big help if you give us attention, and subscribe, like and comment on the YouTube Channel.
